Tech-016: A Journey Cut Short
Not every chapter ends the way you expect. After three intense months at Zupa, I was just getting into my stride when circumstances outside of my control changed everything ...
The company was facing difficult times and had to make some tough decisions. Their new product was put on hold, and with that pivot came a stream of redundancies. My journey with the team ended far sooner than I had imagined.
On a personal level, it was frustrating — I had invested my energy, delivered tangible automation successes, and built strong relationships. To step away after such a short time felt unfinished. But it also reminded me of a valuable truth:
sometimes careers are shaped not just by what we choose, but by the circumstances we find ourselves in.
🪞Reflection
Even though the chapter was short, it wasn’t wasted. In just three months I had:
- Consolidated pipelines into a scalable, maintainable structure.
- Automated Synapse, SQL, and Power BI deployments.
- Learned the importance of adaptability when the ground beneath you shifts.
And while I didn’t get to see the long-term impact of my work, I left knowing I had made a real difference during my time there.
✈️ Closing
Some stories are about longevity. Others are about intensity. My time at Zupa may have been brief, but it sharpened my skills, deepened my resilience, and reminded me that setbacks are simply part of the journey forward.
After the redundancy, I made a conscious choice: instead of rushing straight into the next role, I took a month off. I unplugged, did a digital detox, travelled, and gave myself time to reset. That break wasn’t just rest — it was perspective.
