Tech-004: From Mechanical Engineering Back to IT
After my time in software development at West Notts College, I took some time to reflect. I wondered if tech was really the right path for me — so I decided to try something completely different: mechanical engineering.
This was hands on mechanical engineering working with machines and CAD Cam software it was very mathematical and for this reason after around 6 months I decided it wasn’t for me.
I quit the course I then decided to go back to IT and took started a level 3 course in IT at north Notts college in Worksop
With the help from the tutors and Edexcel the course provider, i was able to complete just half the course as my previously completed course content from West Notts was allowed to contribute to the other half of my qualification
Here I continued my studies in general IT and Tech Support, delving more into the network and infrastructure side of the industry. Not knowing at the time that these valuable skills would help me on Devops journey
I successfully graduated this course with a distinction I then applied to Nottingham Trent University to enhance my skills on a software development course
People Who Made a Difference
I'm forever grateful to my tutors: Gordon and Mike here who really saw the potential in me and drove me to do well
Reflection
Looking back, the detour into mechanical engineering wasn’t wasted time. It taught me that not every passion has to become a career, and it reinforced what I already knew deep down: technology was where I belonged.
