Tech-003: College, My First Programming Languages, and Another Hard Lesson

Because of my low grades at school, I couldn’t go straight into a Level 3 course. Instead, I had to start with Level 2 Software Development at West Notts College. At the time, it felt like a setback — but in reality, it gave me the chance to catch up, focus, and prove to myself that I could go further.

I was actually able to complete my 1-year level 2 course in just 6 months, i was then able to fast track onto the 2-year level 3 course and play catch up.

On this course I started to learn my first programming language VBScript Which then progressed into Visual Basic and JavaScript I also started to learn the the pillars of object-oriented programming (OOP).

unfortunately nearing the end of my course, I got in with the wrong crowd and due to an incident, I was expelled from the course

The Tutors Who Made a Difference:

I thank my tutors: John, Wayne, and Waqas their guidance and support gave me the structure that school did not. Looking back

Looking Back

college was where I truly became a programmer. I learned my first languages, started to understand real software design, and proved I could fast-track and catch up. But it was also where I learned that no amount of technical skill can make up for poor decisions outside the classroom. That lesson stayed with me.
